Emmett, Stanford, Ryan nab weekly awards

Senior guard Andre Emmett is a player-of-the-year candidate so far this season. He has really bought into coach Bobby Knight's system and Emmett has led the Red Raiders to nine straight wins. Emmett led No. 25 Texas Tech to a pair of impressive wins last week, scoring 27 points against Ohio State and 32 vs. Oklahoma State (in the Red Raiders' first Big 12 game of the campaign).

Junior forward Taylor Coppenrath hit 18-of-23 shots from the floor in two games last week, scoring a career-high 41 points in Vermont's 88-78 win over Northeastern.

Coach Mike Montgomery has done an incredible job this season. No. 6 Stanford plays like a cohesive unit as well as any team in America. And now junior guard/forward Josh Childress, who had missed time due to injury, is back for the Cardinal.

Stanford escaped Arizona State with a one-point win but really showed its ability in a big 82-72 triumph over No. 3 Arizona in Tucson. Childress made an impact with 19 points against the Wildcats.

When is this guy going to get his share of national respect? No. 18 Wisconsin has won or shared the Big Ten title for two straight years, and the Badgers look like the Big Ten heavyweight this season. The Badgers sent a message with a pair of impressive wins over Indiana and Michigan State.

The Hawkeyes had momentum after beating Purdue earlier in the week, but that didn't matter to coach Bill Carmody and Northwestern. The Wildcats came in with a 5-7 record and left with their first win at Iowa City since 1994. Junior forward Vedran Vukusic led Northwestern with 22 points. The Wildcats shot 53 percent from the floor and forced 21 turnovers in the surprise victory.

Guard Curtis Stinson helped the Cyclones earn Big 12 wins over Missouri and Nebraska. He scored 22 points against the Tigers and 15 vs. the Cornhuskers.

Bruce Price, a 6-3 guard from Minneapolis, totaled 51 points in victories over Jacksonville State and Samford.
