The pre-season and Holiday tournaments are complete. Some teams are praising their good fortune and others are licking their wounds. Here are my picks for teams that have been pleasant surprises, disappointments and who could be potential giant-killers.
The jury's still out on these teams with lofty records. We will not find out how good they really are until they start to meet competition in league action
Boston College (8-0)
Baylor (8-0)
Georgetown (10-0)
Minnesota (10-1)
Alabama (9-1)
Better than the numbers show. Oh yes, they've suffered some losses but they've played against quality competition. Trust me, they are better than their numbers
Kentucky (4-5)
Arizona (6-3)
Illinois (9-3)
Maryland (7-3)
Dayton (7-4)
Disappointments. Early this year expectations were a lot higher for these teams than they've proven on the court. It's early and things could turn around for these squads but so far they haven't played up to their potential.
UCLA (4-4)
St. John's (5-5)
Utah (6-5)
DePaul (7-4)
UMass (2-7)
Rip Van Winkle teams. Sleeper teams to watch. These teams will cause problems for higher ranked conference foes all year.
Charlotte (6-2)
Mississippi (11-1)
Villanova (7-1)
St. Bonaventure (8-1)
College of Charleston (8-1)
