Sources: Wolverines want Pitino

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Look for the University of Michigan to terminate head coach Brian Ellerbe's tenure shortly. That doesn't come as a surprise since that has been rumored for weeks.

What may come as a surprise is a potential target for the position. Sources have told me athletics director Bill Martin will try to hit a grand slam by pursuing Rick Pitino.

Seton Hall coach Tommy Amaker remains high on the list of candidates. Michigan feels it has a top-10 job and will do what it can to find out if Pitino has any interest in the Wolverines.

Louisville athletics director Tom Jurich is meeting with Pitino in the coach's home down in the Miami area this weekend. Jurich is trying to woo Pitino into signing on the dotted line as Denny Crum's replacement.

Pitino has some concern about the Louisville job because of the strong bond he had with the Kentucky fans. He's wondering if there would be a backlash among Wildcats fans if he took the job with the Cardinals. Those were ardent supporters in the past.

Stay tuned as the Pitino chase continues.
