Dec. 3
Each week I post my "Dick's Dow Jones" report on whose stock is up and whose is down from across the world of sports.
STOCK UP: Vols, Pierce, Lakers
Tennessee's football team went into Gainesville Saturday night and came away with its biggest victory of the season, upsetting Steve Spurrier's Gators. That was Tennessee's first win at Florida in 30 years, when current Vols coach Phil Fullmer was an offensive lineman. QB Casey Clausen did a great job orchestrating the victory, and then he was orchestrating the band after the game, rubbing it in a bit. Now Tennessee is off to the SEC Championship game against LSU.
What about Paul Pierce of the Celtics? We hear so much about Allen Iverson and Ray Allen, but Pierce is a young, up-and-coming star on the wing. He scored 46 points in the second half against the Nets after going 1-for-16 in the first half.
Then there's Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. All the defending two-time champions have done is win 15 of their first 16 out of the gate. Phil Jackson is a member of my All-Rudy Guiliani team for leaders in sports.
STOCK DOWN: Terry Glenn, Broncos, Heat
Terry Glenn of the New England Patriots. Isn't it ironic that the Boston area has both Glenn and Carl Everett; the city deserves better. The Patriots have had an outstanding season and Bill Belichick has done an outstanding job, but Glenn seems to be off in his own world. It's a shame, because he has a lot of talent.
The Denver Broncos have been really struggling. Mike Shanahan's team is .500 after losing Sunday to the Dolphins. The Broncos had a 10-0 lead in that game, but turnovers killed Denver.
The Miami Heat have lost 11 straight games. Hey, I wish I had some of Pat Riley's hand-me-down Armani suits! Riley has had to deal with injury problems, but this is the toughest stretch of his career. The Heat lost to the Wizards and Bulls last week.
