Celebrating the arrival of twin diaper dandies

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Nov. 12
I am so excited about the diaper dandies for this season. I can't wait to see future stars like Carmelo Anthony of Syracuse and Jason Fraser of Villanova later this week at Madison Square Garden. Guys like Raymond Felton of North Carolina and Shavlik Randolph of Duke will make lots of noise.

Dick Vitale holds some truly awesome diaper dandies: Connor and Jake Krug, his twin grandsons who were born Saturday.
Wait a minute! Let me talk about my most recent experience with diaper dandies. I was on Cloud Nine on Saturday with my own diaper-dandy grandchildren -- twins, baby!

At 9:45 a.m. and 9:46 a.m. at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Nov. 9, my wife Lorraine and I welcomed two new grandchildren to our family. Jake and Connor Krug came into the world, with my daughter Sherri and son-in-law Thomas being the proud parents.

Connor came first by one minute, weighing in at 5 pounds, 14 ounces, while Jake weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces.

Since their dad played quarterback at Notre Dame in 1996, and their mom played tennis for the Fighting Irish, graduating in '96, the Golden Domers just got two future athletes. It might be early to make the commitment for the class of 2020, though.

There is no doubt they'll be cheering for Notre Dame. Already hanging in their room are jerseys with "ND #1"!

The families are so proud. Joining in the festive moment were proud grandparents Kathleen and Paul Krug (from Los Gatos, Calif.), plus their sons Brian, Kevin and Derek.

True diaper dandies arrived in our family. I will enjoy watching the likes of Anthony, Felton and Fraser, but not as much as I'll savor the moments ahead with Connor and Jake, as well as my other granddaughter, Sydney. It's so special to enjoy these moments in life, being a proud family man.

It is awesome, babies, with a capital A!
