Peyton sets TD record

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Dec. 27, 2004 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down ...

Peyton Manning — Manning broke Dan Marino's single-season record for touchdown passes as the Indianapolis Colts defeated the San Diego Chargers 34-31 in overtime. Marino's record was 48, and Peyton now has 49 (he'll try to add to it next week at Denver). The Colts (12-3) have already clinched the AFC South.

Iowa Hawkeyes basketball — How about a salute for Iowa basketball? Coach Steve Alford's team is 10-1 and has wins over Texas, Louisville, Iowa State and (most recently) a 30-point blowout over Texas Tech and the General, Robert Montgomery Knight (Alford's former coach at Indiana).

Miami Heat, ShaqShaquille O'Neal and the Heat have won 11 straight games after beating the Los Angeles Lakers 104-102 in overtime at the Staples Center on Christmas Day.

Brett Favre — Favre completed 30-of-43 passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 34-31 win over the Minnesota Vikings and a third straight NFC North title.

Boston Red Sox — The Red Sox made several good moves last week, signing pitchers Matt Clement and Wade Miller, while re-signing catcher and new captain Jason Varitek.

Minnesota Vikings — The Vikings have dropped three of their past four games.

Jacksonville Jaguars — The Jaguars, battling for a playoff spot, were shut out at home by the Houston Texans.

Chad Pennington — Pennington, the New York Jets' quarterback, ripped the New York media and then showed he was distracted in a 23-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers — The Bucs fell to 5-10 on the season after a 37-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

UCLA Bruins football — UCLA lost to Wyoming in the Las Vegas Bowl. UCLA has now lost four of its past five bowl games.
