Stock Watch: FAST-GLANCE WEEK IN REVIEW
Jan. 11, 2005 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down ...
STOCK UP: Mets sign Beltran
New York Mets -- The Mets get kudos for signing free agent Carlos Beltran. The center fielder joins ace Pedro Martinez, who signed with the Mets earlier this offseason. GM Omar Minaya has had an impact already with the Mets, the other team in the Big Apple.
Ryne Sandberg, Wade Boggs -- Sandberg and Boggs were voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last week.
Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne -- The QB-WR duo was dominant as the Indianapolis Colts blew out the Denver Broncos.
New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams -- All three NFL teams scored playoff upsets on the road.
USC football -- The Trojans routed Oklahoma 55-19 to win the national championship since my last Stock Watch. Congrats to coach Pete Carroll's team on back-to-back national titles.
STOCK DOWN: Jazz go 1-9 in 10-game stretch
Utah Jazz -- The Jazz have really struggled lately. Coach Jerry Sloan's team was supposed to be solid with Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur coming on as free agents this season. Despite Monday's win over the San Antonio Spurs, Utah is 1-9 in its last 10 games.
Randy Moss -- Despite his talent, Moss showed he has little class with his latest gesture at Lambeau Field, where he mooned Green Bay fans after a touchdown.
Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, San Diego Chargers -- All three NFL teams lost playoff games at home.
Oklahoma football -- The Sooners fell apart against USC in the national-championship game.
