Tigers top Cowboys, advance to play Baylor

March, 14, 2009
OKLAHOMA CITY -- An expected offensive battle didn't materialize Friday night between Missouri and Oklahoma State.

Instead, both teams struggled putting the ball in the basket before Missouri emerged with an ugly 67-59 victory over the Cowboys.

The victory pushed the Tigers into the championship game for the first time since 2003.

Missouri won despite shooting only 37.5 percent from the field and less than 20 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

The Tigers claimed this one because of a tough defensive effort that limited OSU to a season low in points. The Cowboys clanked their first 16 3-point shot attempts as they failed to make a basket from behind the arc before Obi Muonelo's trey with 6:11 left in the game. OSU ended up 4-for-24 from behind the arc.

The game was nothing like the first game between the two teams. Missouri claimed a wild 97-95 victory in the earlier game Jan. 21 in Stillwater.

Zaire Taylor led Missouri with 19 points, and Leo Lyons added 15 points and seven rebounds. James Anderson led Oklahoma State with a game-high 20 points.
