1. A victory would give MSU its third national championship and second under coach Tom Izzo. The Spartans would also improve to 6-5 in Final Four games.
2. A victory would give Izzo a 15-2 record in the second game of a weekend in the NCAA tournament. The only losses came in an opponent's home state, losing to No. 1 seed Texas in the South Region in 2003 and to No. 1 seed North Carolina in 2007.
3. MSU would become only the sixth school to win more than two national championships, joining Duke (three), UNC (four), Indiana (five), Kentucky (seven) and UCLA (11).
