Panthers Get Their Guy ... At No. 3

As expected, defenseman Jay Bouwmeester was selected by the Florida Panthers in the 2002 NHL draft, but it wasn't with the No. 1 pick. Florida traded first-round positions with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who took forward Rick Nash at No. 1. Atlanta followed by selecting Finnish goaltender Kari Lehtonen at No. 2. The Panthers got their D-man at No. 3.
