Versatile Gifford led the Giants

Signature Game Dec. 30, 1956 - With Frank Gifford catching four passes for 131 yards and a touchdown, the Giants won their first NFL championship in 18 years by decimating the Chicago Bears, 47-7, on a rainy Yankee Stadium field.

The Giants came out in sneakers and it helped them keep their footing while Chicago players were slipping on the wet turf as the Giants gained a 34-7 halftime lead.
