Rose serves time for cheating on taxes

Pete Rose, who never cheated anybody with his effort on a baseball field, begins a five-month sentence for cheating on his income taxes. Rose becomes No. 01832061 at the minimum-security camp next to the federal penitentiary in Marion, Ill.

The 49-year-old Rose, reporting two days before his deadline to show up, is fingerprinted, photographed and given his prison number before joining his fellow inmates for dinner.
