High school player collapsed on sideline

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. -- A New Providence High School football player died Monday, two days after he underwent emergency brain surgery following his collapse on the sideline during a game, a hospital official said.

Morristown Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Kim Accardo did not release a cause of death for John O'Neill.

The senior defensive end collapsed less than eight minutes into Saturday's game against Immaculata High School of Somerville.
