Gerena should advance in WBC rankings with the win

Puerto Rican lightweight Carlos Gerena survived a sixth-round knockdown to post a narrow, 10-round split-decision victory over former World Boxing Council champ Cesar Bazan of Mexico on Sunday in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
