Jedrejczak bests 2-year-old mark in butterfly
BERLIN -- Otylia Jedrejczak of Poland broke the world record in the women's 200-meter butterfly Sunday, finishing in 2 minutes, 5.78 seconds at the European Swimming Championships.
Jedrejczak bettered the mark of 2:05.81 set by Susan O'Neill in May 2000 at Australia's Olympic trials for the Sydney Games. O'Neill broke a 19-year-old mark by Mary T. Meagher of the United States, then the longest-standing swimming world record.
Jedrejczak's was the fifth world record of the meet.
