Setup man Mecir suspended for plunking Clayton

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Oakland Athletics reliever Jim Mecir began serving his three-game suspension on Monday for hitting Royce Clayton with a pitch.

Two weeks ago, the Chicago White Sox hit A's shortstop Miguel Tejada twice in a game. Mecir plunked Clayton, Chicago's shortstop, with two outs in the ninth inning after a warning had been issued to both teams, leading to ejections for Mecir and A's manager Art Howe.
