Record-setting swimmers must undergo tests
LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Swimmers must undergo tests for the endurance-boosting hormone EPO before any world record can be approved.
The sport's international governing body said it established the rule at a meeting Tuesday in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
FINA said combined blood and urine samples will be taken from all record-setting swimmers. The tests also will look for substances related to EPO, or erythropoietin, like darbopoietin.
