Romo captures Walter Payton Award as top I-AA player

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Eastern Illinois quarterback Tony Romo won the Walter Payton Award on Thursday night as the outstanding player in Division I-AA football.

Romo, a 6-foot-3, 224-pound senior, won the top honor at the 16th Annual Division I-AA College Football Awards ceremony. Romo is a three-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, the only player to ever accomplish that feat.
