Travel and scheduling may be obstacles in move

FARGO, N.D. -- North Dakota State University and South Dakota State will seek membership in the Big Sky Conference, the schools' presidents say.

The two universities decided earlier to move their athletic programs from NCAA Division II, where they compete in the North Central Conference, to Division 1-AA.

NDSU President Joseph Chapman said he and SDSU President Peggy Miller finalized their schools' intent to apply to the Big Sky Conference together on Friday.
