Blackhawks lose defenseman 4-6 weeks
CHICAGO -- Blackhawks defenseman Alexander Karpovtsev has a cracked eye socket -- not just a broken cheekbone -- and will be out four to six weeks.
The cheekbone injury was identified immediately, but the broken orbital bone was discovered a week later after a re-evaluation, general manager Mike Smith said Monday.
The 32-year-old Karpovtsev was hit in the face with a puck against Phoenix on Feb. 20. He has 10 points in 33 games this season.
