Despite ballpark cost, state's burden would be minimal
McLEAN, Va. -- A baseball stadium in northern Virginia would cost about $400 million, according to a state legislator, 33 percent higher than initial estimates in the late 1990s.
Despite the higher cost, taxes on tickets, concessions, player salaries and other revenue generated by baseball are likely to fund the state's share of the construction costs, Del. Vincent Callahan, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said Tuesday.
