  • Now this is fun. The other day we linked you to a great column by Joe Posnanski of the Kansas City Star in which he ribbed St. Louis fans for their claims of being the very best in the sport. Now, with the Cardinals traveling to Kansas City tonight, Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was asked by his boss to fire back at Kansas City. This he does, except not by dipping his pen in acid, but with heartfelt sympathy for the fans of a franchise that was once the envy of the sport. The P-D even accompanies the piece with a link to Posnanski's Star column in case you missed it.

  • Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune wonders how was it that Barry Bonds' 500th steal went almost unnoticed by the media. In that it made him the first man ever with both 500 home runs and steals, it did not garner the attention one would have assumed it should have.

  • Thomas Boswell of the Washington Post has a warning for baseball: make up your mind about the relocation of the Expos to the capital area or risk losing the opportunity to move there. He argues the movers and shakers in both the District of Columbia proper and northern Virginia have gone about as far as they can go to make baseball feel welcome to the area. Now it's Major League Baseball's turn to commit.
