Newman, Stewart put struggles behind
By finishing 1-2 on Sunday, Ryan Newman and Tony Sewart ended up and down first halves on high notes.

It was fitting that Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart finished 1-2 in the race that marked the Winston Cup season's official halfway point. Newman and Stewart would probably rank 1-2 if there was a vote taken on which driver had the strangest first half. For both drivers, the first 18 races were defined by extremes. If they weren't running up front in a given race, chances are they were behind the wall with a blown engine or destroyed car.
