  • William C. Rhoden of the New York Times argues that baseball's trading deadlines should be made a thing of the past. In what other sport, he asks, do the teams get to publicly admit they are done for by swapping their best players to contenders?

  • A few days ago, Sammy Sosa suggested that all the writers who wrote bad things about him should make a public apology. It appears that is just what Rick Morrissey of the Chicago Tribune is doing until &you read a little further&

  • The Houston Texans (that's a football team) have the draft rights to Yankee farmhand Drew Henson, so it is only natural that Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle would counsel Henson to give up his baseball career and a go with football, right? Right -- except that Justice is a baseball writer and he knows of what he speaks. If Henson hopes to make a go of it in a professional sporting career he needs to follow Justice's advice. Of course, there is that little matter of giving back $12 million to the Yankees.
