Signature Game August 3, 1948 -- Former Negro Leagues star Satchel Paige succeeded in his first start in the American League. Before 72,434 fans - the largest crowd to attend a night game in Cleveland - the lanky Indians righthander defeated the Washington Senators, 5-3.
