Pac-10 turns into three-team race

Everyone expected USC to be among the nation's best, but who knew Washington State and Oregon State would join them and Washington and Arizona State wouldn't?

A midseason team-by-team look at the Pac-10.

Arizona
Arizona, at 1-6 and 0-3 in the conference, is off to its worst start since 1966, but things could be worse. John Mackovic could still be the head coach. Since Mackovic was booted, the Wildcats have played like they actually care.

After looking like one of the worst BCS teams the first four games of the season, Arizona played competitively with TCU, Washington State and UCLA. The offense, anemic under Mackovic, produced 519 yards against UCLA, owners of the Pac-10's best defense, including 276 yards on the ground. If the Wildcats got a few breaks, they might have won.
