An IV dripped morphine into his left arm. Thirty minutes earlier, doctors had given him Percaset, Valium and OxyContin. But despite the pain-killer cocktail, Chad Kagy was in complete agony. Two days earlier, on September 15, doctors fused the fifth and sixth vertebrae in his neck to repair damage caused by a crash on his BMX bike.
