Light welter Peterson upsets Blain

RENO, Nev. -- Light welterweight Lamont Peterson's upset victory over world champion Willy Blain led the United States to a 7-4 victory over France in amateur boxing on Saturday night.

Peterson, 19, of Washington, D.C., used a deliberate attack to beat Blain, of Ile de France, France, with an 8-5 decision in the 141-pound class.

Peterson, the 2003 U.S. champion, staggered Blain with a huge overhand left in the fourth round to secure the win.
