The poor play of the Western Conference, an explanation of intentional offsides and this week's starting lineup.

Open Ice The Western Conference is playing poorly against the East because of poor play at the top. The Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars were thought to be potential Stanley Cup contenders, and instead their seasons are starting to fall by the wayside.

The Stars are under .500 -- 1-6-0-0 against the East -- and are giving up a ton of goals. Usually a defensively sound team, the Stars have given up at least three goals in their last eight games. They've also given up at least four goals ...
