Boston Red Sox: Popular Red Soxer Brian Daubach has returned to the team via a minor league contract that will afford him the opportunity to compete for a job in spring training, reports Bob Hohler of the Boston Globe. After four years in Boston, Daubach spent 2003 with the White Sox and had the worst year of his career. His other suitor was the St. Louis Cardinals, his favorite team growing up in Illinois. "I couldn't go wrong either way," he told Hohler. "But Boston is where I grew up in the big leagues, they have a good chance to win the World Series, and a lot of my friends are there."

New York Yankees: Within 48 hours of collapsing at a function on Saturday, George Steinbrenner was back at work, reports Sam Borden of the New York Daily News. The focus for the Yankee owner is a backup first baseman and signing newly-acquired Javier Vazquez to a multi-year contract. Borden reports that the club has turned its attention away from the higher dollar first baseman and is focusing on players who wouldn't mind a subservient role to Jason Giambi. Eric Karros, Tony Clark and Andres Galarraga are names he suggests.
