Counsilman oldest person to swim English Channel

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Former U.S. Olympic and IU swimming coach James "Doc" Counsilman died in Bloomington, Ind., on Sunday.

Friends said Counsilman, who wrote one of the sport's most authoritative books, "The Science of Swimming," died in his sleep. He was 83. He had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease for more than a decade.
