Backup point guard was averaging 7.1 ppg

PHOENIX -- Phoenix Suns backup point guard Howard Eisley probably is out for the rest of the season after undergoing hernia surgery.

Eisley, acquired by the Suns as part of the trade that sent Stephon Marbury to the New York Knicks on Jan. 5, was averaging 7.1 points, 3.4 assists and 21.4 minutes in 34 games with the Suns.

The Suns said the surgery performed on Thursday was successful.
