Williams damages knee cartilage

New York Giants: Strong safety Shaun Williams, who injured his left knee in practice Friday, will undergo surgery Monday.

An MRI revealed that he has a tear to the lateral meniscus. When he can return cannot be determined until after he has the surgery to repair the damaged cartilage.

Rookie Gibril Wilson, a fifth-round pick from Tennessee who had an interception in last week's 20-14 win over Washington, will start at strong safety Sunday when the Giants host the Cleveland Browns.
