A new director at FWS

In theory, conservationists and environmentalists should agree on many issues relating to natural resources.

Theoretically, "conservationists" and "environmentalists" should agree on many of the issues related to management of our natural resources, and those labels should be almost interchangeable. In fact, when I first became conservation writer for BASSMASTER back in the 1980s, I used them that way.

Sadly, I no longer can do so.

Over the years, the two sides have polarized. Conservationists lobby for a broad, balanced approach, emphasizing consumptive use and conserving fish, wildlife, ...
