Don't forget floating minnows

Most anglers consider topwater minnows "old school"

As with other accomplished fishermen who have qualified for the CITGO Bassmaster Classic, Tennessee's Rufus Johnson owns scores of suspending jerkbaits. When coldwater bass hover near dropoffs or relate to submerged aquatic vegetation, Johnson hangs a suspending jerkbait above them and coaxes strikes with slow twitch-pause retrieves that are long on the pauses.

But unlike many anglers, Johnson hasn't lost touch with floating minnows, the predecessors to today's ubiquitous suspending jerkbaits. ...
