Dealing with uterine infections

Pyometra is an infection of the uterus. It can be dangerous, but is also treatable.

The Adams were hoping to get one more litter out of Ophelia, their hound. She was a great mother and had a resounding bay that could be heard across House Mountain when she treed a coon. Unfortunately, Ophelia's breeding did not go as expected. About 50 days after she went into heat, she developed a thick vaginal discharge and seemed listless. Her eyes were a little sunken and she was off her food — something that definitely signaled troubled.
