Convenience and performance enhancements continue to show up in trolling motors marketed by Minn Kota and MotorGuide. Here are the new products for 2006 being offered by the leaders in the trolling motor market:

1. MINN KOTA (www.minnkotamotors.com; 800-227-6433) — The Edge Series of bow mounted electric motors provide a smaller, lighter package for small rigs or budget-minded anglers. They take up less room on the bow and reduce clutter, yet provide many of the features that the larger Minn Kota motors offer. The new mount of the Edge is made of tempered marine grade extruded aluminum, and it has a positive rear stow latch that keeps the motor in place during long runs. The motor shaft is made of a composite material for durability and Edge models come in either foot control or hand-operated versions.

In foot-operated models, there's a 24-volt, 70-pound thrust and three 12-volt models — 55, 45 and 40 thrust. Two Tilt Twist designs are 12-volt motors in either 55- or 40-pound thrust. Shaft lengths vary from 36 to 52 inches.
