A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:

NBA

• Phil Jackson got the best of Pat Riley again on Monday -- the Lakers beat the Heat 100-92 in Los Angeles -- improving Jackson's record against Riley to 23-16. Of the 20 other coaches who have faced Riley at least 25 times, the only other one with a winning record is Jerry Sloan (23-9).

• The Pistons, by defeating the Celtics on Monday, became the 17th team in NBA history to reach 30 wins within their first 35 games of the season. But neither of the last two teams to do that (the Mavericks were 30-5 in 2002-03 and the Suns were 30-4 last season) has even reached the NBA Finals, much less won the title.
