No dunking zone

Over the years, I've received many notes from readers who ask me why Nike doesn't require LeBron James to enter the Slam Dunk Contest at the NBA All-Star Game. Now, I don't pretend to have any inside knowledge here, but my thoughts are this: Nike doesn't want him to be in the Slam Dunk Contest. The contest certainly won't make LeBron -- he's already a bona fide star. But if he doesn't win, there's a feeling that he would have a lot to lose. Especially if he falls second to Nate Robinson, of all people.
