Gilbert's griping backfires

Updated: February 24, 2006, 12:46 PM ET
Earlier this week, I reported that Gilbert Arenas was so upset about how he was being treated by adidas that he covered up the logo on his sneakers during the All-Star Game. Arenas later vented about how he thought he deserved more attention.

It seemed amazing that Arenas wasn't aware that the company was planning to roll out his signature shoe later this year with a full-blown advertising campaign. His agent, Dan Fegan, said there's a reason why his client didn't know about the state of things.

"We still weren't done negotiating, and I was waiting until it was done to surprise Gilbert with the company's commitment to him," Fegan said. "Well, it obviously backfired."
