If the New York Yankees don't win the World Series in 2006, their fourth longest streak ever of not winning a championship will extend to six years. In the modern era, the Yankees have gone 22 years (1901-1923), 18 years (1978-1996) and 15 years (1962-77) between World Series titles. Six years between titles is an eternity to a team that has won 26 World Series titles and 39 AL pennants in 45 playoff appearances.
