Reality TV

On Tuesday night, I walked into a TGI Friday's to pick up a to-go order. They've got a pretty good chicken Caesar salad. As I walk into the bar/restaurant, I'm wondering whether they'll have Devils-Sens or Flyers-Leafs on the big screen. I figure I can check the score while I'm waiting for the chow.

When I get to the bar, I'm stunned at what I see. And it really makes me feel like I'm totally out of touch with my fellow Americans. The patrons are sitting there watching ... "American Idol"?

When did people start going to bars to watch reality TV shows? I mean, the sound was turned up and these people were focused on these would-be stars. I thought people watched this stuff at home.
