A big hit

Jimmy Rollins consecutive game hitting streak ended at 38. Now it's time to evaluate what the streak did to Rollins' popularity. From a business perspective, one way to look at it is to look at statistics from eBay. It tells us that while there are more people interested in owning something Rollins, he's still not among the most marketable players in the league. Over the past month, 984 Jimmy Rollins items have been sold on the site, with an average price of $9.34.

Up until last week, the average item was bid on one-and-a-half times. But now, with Rollins' name in the news, each item has now averaged two-and-a-half bids. So the competition to get a Rollins item for a great price has increased, as expected.

The average price for a Rollins item also has increased, actually more than doubled, from $5.63 per item two weeks ago to $13.88 over the past week.
