Draft update: Too soon for Boone?

Updated: April 7, 2006, 4:45 PM ET
UConn big man Josh Boone announced Friday that he's entering the 2006 NBA draft but, to preserve his college eligibility, he won't hire an agent.

His stock has slipped pretty dramatically because of a lack of consistent production. Right now scouts project him as a late first-round or early second-round pick. Last season, and early this season, he was projected as a potential late lottery to mid-first-round pick.

Boone has the tools to be a good NBA player. He's long, athletic and active -- three characteristics scouts love in their big men. But, a lot like Rudy Gay, he sometimes seems to play without desire. He disappears in too many big games.
