Pitchers claim armored hitters have unfair edge

Bob Watson played 19 big league seasons when men were men, arms were exposed to the open air, and a fastball off the ulnar nerve resulted in searing pain followed by numbness or a tingling sensation down a hitter's forearm.

Ask Watson for a personal inventory of how many times he took a heater off the elbow, and he replies with the classic all-purpose estimate.

"More times than I wanted," he says.
