Top defenders to watch in 2006

Heisman, schmizeman. We've all heard the adage "defense wins championships," right? Well, the 56-man Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List came out the other day, and since I'm big on procrastinating when it comes to grown-up matters (in this case packing and laundry), I figured this was a ripe blogging topic. As you know, the award goes to the best defensive player in college football. Last season Elvis Dumervil of Louisville won it.

The parameters are that the FWAA All-America Committee selects the winner from the association's 11-man All-America defensive team in late November. Keep in mind that this watch list means nothing really, because players can be added from the Bronko Nagurski Watch List during the course of the 2006 season. But let's have some fun with it before I resort to filing something on my favorite color, assistant football coaches who I suspect would make the best wingmen or Worst Moving Companies in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Anyhow, if I'm doing odds on the Nagurski at this juncture, here's how I'd set it:
