In defense of Phil Mickelson

Please allow me to be the first to take this angle on Phil Mickelson's handling of the U.S. Open's 72nd hole: I'm defending his actions.

The consensus, from caddie to club members and, of course, the man responsible for the swing, is that he had no other club in his bag besides a driver to hit off the tee. And nobody seemed to complain when ol' successful Lefty lashed away with the driver during the first three rounds. So that toasts the French jokes and Jean Van de Velde comparison.
