National picture tilts on Irish's emotional upset of Michigan

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The moon was bright late Saturday night, and for the first time in recent memory, Notre Dame fans did not mind being part of the glow. They remained in the shadows of the stadium until late in the evening, soaking in the atmosphere and the thrill of victory.

It had been a long while since Irish fans felt so good. Saturday's 36-20 victory over defending co-national champion Michigan would not normally register as such a seismic jolt. Big wins are supposed to be common when you're Notre Dame.
