Friday mailbag

This week's mailbag was heavy on the rivalry subject:

From Craig in Pomona, N.Y.: Army-Navy hasn't been relevant in the 30 years I have been alive. When you were growing up, the country had gone through a string of wars, and there were many citizens who were in one of the four units of our military. Unfortunately today, not many people have an allegiance to any of the military academies. This game means nothing and that is shown in the ratings. I understand your point, but we are no longer in the era where either of these teams matter in the whole scheme of things.

Bruce Feldman: I'm in my 30s too. I feel like many people in our generation have parents, uncles and such who were in the service, and that's why I feel the connection to that game. I also think given the climate in the world today, that connection to the military is as strong as it ever has been. I don't know, though. Maybe I am wrong about that, from reading a lot of the responses.
