Johnson wants shot at Dawson

Updated: February 16, 2007, 10:35 AM ET
Former light heavyweight champ Glen Johnson was ringside Feb. 3 to watch Chad Dawson take a world title from Tomasz Adamek via unanimous decision. Now, Johnson wants a chance to face the new titleholder.

"I congratulate Chad Dawson on his victory over Tomasz Adamek, and by the looks of things, he's a real fighter who won't duck any challenges," said Johnson (44-11-2, 29 KOs), the 2004 fighter of the year who owns wins against Roy Jones, Antonio Tarver, Clinton Woods and Eric Harding. "Of course, having said that, I expect that he would have no problem giving fight fans what they want by meeting me in the ring as soon as he's ready to make his first title defense."

In his last bout in September, Johnson, 38, lost a split decision to titlist Woods in their third meeting.
